Veterinary And Animal Husbandry Services, Manipur is playing a significant role in the rural economy of the State by providing gainful employment to a large number of small/marginal farmers and agricultural labourers and raising their economic status. The schemes of the Animal Husbandry Department have been formulated to improve the Livestock Production to fight protein hunger and to improve nutritional standards of human populace and also provide technical support for the maintenance and improvement of livestock in the State. This Department is discharging its duties and functions with its network of various categories of veterinary institutions, in the State. The Department has many activities such as the development of Cattle, Buffalo, Piggery, Poultry and Goats, besides Fodder resources, Extension and training, Implementation of socio-economic programmes etc.In addition, the Department conducts routine Integrated Sample Survey and Livestock Census quinquennially. At present, Veterinary and Animal Husbandry Department has attained the position of major technical department in the administrative set up of the Government of Manipur.
