Category A:

1. Master’s Degree: A Master’s degree with 55% marks (or an equivalent grade in a point-scale) in a concerned/relevant/allied subject from an Indian University, or an equivalent degree from an accredited foreign university.
2. NET/SLET/SET: Besides the above qualification, the candidate must have cleared the National Eligibility Test (NET) conducted by the UGC or the CSIR, or a similar test accredited by the UGC, like SLET/SET.
   • Exemption: Candidates who have been awarded a Ph.D. Degree in accordance with the University Grants Commission (Minimum Standards and Procedure for Award of M.Phil./Ph.D. Degree) Regulations, 2009 or 2016, are exempted from the requirement of NET/SLET/SET.

Category B:
The Ph.D. degree has been obtained from a foreign university/institution with a ranking among the top 500 in the World University Ranking (at any time) by any one of the following:

1. Quacquarelli Symonds (QS)
2. The Times Higher Education (THE)
3. The Academic Ranking of World Universities (ARWU) of the Shanghai Jiao Tong University.

Assam University is a collegiate central public university located at Silchar, Assam, India. It was founded in the year 1994 by the provisions of an act enacted by the Parliament of India. The Governor of Assam is the Chief Rector and the President of India is acting as the Visitor of the University. The Chancellor is the ceremonial head of the university while the executive powers rest with the Vice-chancellor. The University has sixteen schools which offer Humanities, Languages, Environmental Sciences, Information Sciences, Life Sciences, Physical Sciences, Social Sciences, Law, Technology and Management Studies. There are 42 departments under these sixteen schools. The five districts under the jurisdiction of Assam University have 73 undergraduate colleges as on 31 March 2020.
