About East Jaintia Hills District Court: The Court of District and Sessions Judge, East Jaintia Hills, Khliehriat, came into existence when the Judiciary was separated from the Executive on 12th August, 2020 and on the red letter day, the bifurcation was inaugurated by the then Hon’ble Chief Justice of High Court of Meghalaya, Hon’ble Mr. Justice Biswanath Somadder.

The Court of District and Sessions Judge comprises of the (i) District and Sessions Judge who also has additional charges of Additional D.C. (Judicial), Special Judge (POCSO) etc., (ii) Chief Judicial Magistrate who also has additional charges of Assistant to D.C. and Secretary of District Legal Services Authority and (iii) Judicial Magistrate First Class who also has additional charges of Assistant to D.C. and Principal Magistrate, Juvenile Justice Board.

The Courts, under the judgeship of the District & Sessions Judge, East Jaintia Hills, Khliehriat, tries both Civil and Criminal matters within its jurisdiction, inter alia, drawing its power from the Code of Criminal Procedure, Code of Civil Procedure, Special Acts as well as from Rules for Administration of Justice and Police in the Khasi and Jaintia Hills District, 1937 and of the Khasi Syiemship (Administration of Justice) Order, 1950.
