About Government of Sikkim Home Department

The Home Department is the most pivotal Department under the Government of Sikkim. Its acts as a Nodal Department to coordinate between the various departments under the Government of Sikkim. It oversees the implementation of the overall policies of the State Government. The prime objectives and responsibilities of the Home Department are maintenance of law and order, crime control, Police administration, administration of justice, internal security matters, liaison with the Central Government and other State Governments and the Army authorities.

The subjects dealt with by the Home Department are notified vide Government of Sikkim (Allocation of Business) Rules, 2017, as amended from time to time. The very works under this Department are further allocated to four sections namely the Administration Section, Accounts Section, Confidential Section and Protocol Section. In addition to these sections, Vigilance (Police) and State Prisons are also essential parts of Home Department. The Rajya Sainik Board which looks after the welfare of ex-servicemen is also under the administrative control of Home Department.
