Assam Rifles Public School was founded on 1st September 1980 by Lt. Gen. Sushil Kumar, PVSM, the then Director General Assam Rifles with a view to providing quality education to the children of Assam Rifles personnel at affordable cost. Assam Rifles Public School is a Co-Ed School affiliated to the CBSE, New Delhi as well as an SAI designated Sports School under the "KHELO INDIA SCHEME".

The School also offers seats to children sponsored by the Sports Authority of India, the North Eastern Council, and civilian students.
