Assam: 900 New Govt Posts Will Be Created in Public Works & Public Health Engineering Department

Guwahati: The Assam Cabinet has announced that it will create 900 news posts in the Public Works Department and Public Health Engineering department. This will be made possible through the establishment of new circles, divisions, and sub-divisions in the respective departments.

On Thursday, the Chief Minister of Assam had informed that the Assam Cabinet has decided to create 8 circles, 20 new divisions, and 28 sub-divisions in the Public Works Department all across the state to facilitate smooth functioning. The creation of 804 technical posts has also been announced.

The Chief Minister's Office (CMO) said in a statement, "The Cabinet also approved the creation of 804 technical posts for the department." 

The creation of three new divisions of the Public Health Engineering Department had been decided by the government to be set up in the districts of Majuli, South Salmara-Mankachar, and Balaji with headquarters at Kamlabari, Hatsingimara, and Pathsala, respectively. This will create 93 new posts in the department. 

In addition to the creation of government posts, the Assam Cabinet has also made several key decisions regarding other interests of the state.

The Assam Cabinet has announced that classes from Higher Secondary to Post Graduation level are to start from the first week of September 2021. Vaccination camps are to be organized at the offices of Block Elementary Education Officer, District Elementary Education Officer, Inspector of Schools, and all university campuses from August 27, 2021, up to September 5, 2021. SOP regarding the reopening of institutions will be announced on or before August 31.

The Deputy Commissioners of the state have been authorized to transfer Grade III and IV staff including junior engineers within the district in consultation with the Head of the Department concerned.

The Science and Technology department of the state has been renamed as Science, Technology, and Climate Change Department.

The Assam government has decided to observe September 3 as Sports Day on the occasion of the birthday of Arjun Bhogeswar Baruah. The regular sports pension for sportspersons, organizers, and technical officials has been raised from Rs. 8,000 to Rs. 10,000. A lifetime pension of Rs.10,000 per month will be provided to medal winners of national and international championships. One-time assistance of Rs.50,000 will be provided to medal winners who are in employment.
